First Level “EXPLORING ARTIST” No experience is required. Enjoy learning about new materials, tools, and techniques. Explore! Think of “How can I use the material?”, “What techniques could I apply?” Ask someone experienced to show you how to use a new tool or follow written instructions. It helps to focus on one material, tool or technique at a time. What did you learn? Write some notes into your sketchbook.
Second Level “PRACTICING ARTIST” Now that you have some experience with the tools, materials and techniques you may think of a goal. “What do you want to achieve?”, “What steps do I need to take to achieve my goal?” You may think of simple projects to practice your new skills. It is O.K. to follow written instructions or copy some simple ideas to practice a skill. Even Leonardo Da’ Vinci copied techniques from other artists to practice his skills. You may use your sketchbook to practice your skills, or take some photographs/film clips to document your learning progress. Third Level “EXPERIENCED ARTIST” Congratulations! You are now skilled in your techniques and you know well how to use the materials and tools. You are entering a new dimension – the dimension of indefinite creative possibilities.
